Early Trip to See Santa!!

Upon the suggestion from Santa during our visit last year, we went to take Sam's picture with the Jolly Ol' Elf himself before Thanksgiving this year. There was NO LINE, and it gave Sam plenty of time to acclimate to the environment of The Galleria before we gave him over to Santa. I am SUPER pleased because we have the same Santa as last year! :o)

I was so surprised to see how big he looked sitting there with Santa this year. Here is last year's picture for comparison! Look at how much he's grown!!!!

Latest Round Rock Trip

Sam and I just returned from another trip to Round Rock. While we were there, Sam learned that he could easily climb onto Nana and Papa's coffee table. He really found that to be a fun activity.

He started exploring his nasal cavity. :o)

He got a new tent! His green tent had been recalled, and when I returned it to the IKEA here in Houston, they did not have any other tents in stock. We went to the IKEA in Round Rock, and they had one that resembles a circus tent in stock. Here he is trying it out for the first time.

He also got a dump truck from Nana and Papa that he liked to drag around with him.

We also got Nana a set of shelves while at IKEA. After assembly, Sam adopted the bottom shelf as his very own place to hang out.

First introductions were finally made between the cousins! Here is Sam checking out me feeding little B.

Houston Zoo with Cousin Emma!

While Cousin Emma, Aunt Kim and Uncle Tom were in town, we all went for an outing to the Houston Zoo. Here is a quick family picture. I look MUCH more excited than the guys to be at the zoo. :o)

It has really been an amazing thing to watch with Sam... every time we go to the zoo (we are members, so we go quite often when it's cooler outside) Sam becomes more and more aware of the animals.

Dewberry Farm

To continue our fall activities, today we went to Dewberry Farm in Brookshire, Texas. We went with the Mom's Groups that I am a member of, and since Eddie is home he got to go with us! With the cool front that blew in last night, it was SO windy so we had to bust out the hoodie for Sam and the sweater for me. :o)

Sam really took a little longer than usual to acclimate to all of the activity today, so he wanted to hang out with us for a little while.

Our first activity was the Barrel Train. Since Sam is still a little dude, I had to ride along, so here we are ready to go!

SO...There were these swinging tubes. Daddy thought it would be a good idea to let Sam crawl in - like his tunnel... this QUICKLY backfired as Sam stopped crawling about four feet into the tube and wouldn't move. Here is a nice stranger who was helping Eddie out by climbing in to retrieve our son (and her adorable little boy supervising the extraction.)

Off we went to the pumpkin patch where Sam got to pick out his own little pumpkin.

Halter Farm

We went for a fall trip to Halter Farm today with the Miertschins. There was a hay ride, petting zoo, pony rides, "haunted" woods, a "trackless train" ride (a train pulled by a riding lawn mower) :) Sam didn't ride a pony, but he did get to pet one! :)

Sam really enjoyed running around and touching all of the pumpkins at the pumpkin patch. As usual for him, they all got the one fingered treatment. :)

As the afternoon wore on, Sam was getting really overheated, so Dad fashioned some cool, wet rags to help cool him down. He put one inside his collar and on his head. It really helped, his little red cheeks got lighter.

Here he is with the air conditioner blowing on his full blast in the car and making his hair stand on end. You can always tell he had a good time when he is almost asleep before you leave the parking lot! :)

I just realized that there's an app for that. Blogger has developed an app (finally) for the iPhone and I just wanted to see how it works and posts.
Here is a picture of Sam in what has become his hang out outside - the wood rack. He has a mind of his own and loves exploring!

Long trip to Round Rock

Sam and I headed to Round Rock a couple of weeks ago to await the arrival of his new cousin!! Bowen made his arrival on September 29th!

Eddie and I went up to the hospital to check the little guy out.

Here are the three generations of Kipp men. Love them all!!

We made a trip to Pok-E-Jos (my FAVORITE BBQ place in town) and Sam was super excited that he got to share a little banana pudding with his Papa.

Since we have been in Round Rock, Sam has discovered the glory that is DIRT!!! He likes to pick it up and drop it on the ground.

He loves to carry around Lava Rocks that he retrieves from the flower bed...

and he was a sweet boy and was picking his Mama little weed flowers.

He was starting to get really shaggy (as Holly put it, he was starting to look like he was wearing a Carol Channing wig) so his Nana and I took him to Snip-Its to get a hair cut. They specialize in haircuts for kids, and the girl that cut his hair was SO good with him. She started off by showing him how the clippers tickled, by running the clipper guard up his arm while talking to him about it.

Then she got to work!

Up until now, his haircuts (this is his FOURTH!) have mainly been trims around the edges to clean him up, so the back had really gotten really full. Every time he gets a haircut, I feel like they are cutting away his baby-ness and replacing it with little boy.

We got to spend a little time with the Mokry kids! Aubrey was so good with Sam, (she is going to be so much help to Tiff with the new baby). She would help him cross the bridge in the Collier's backyard to get to the sandbox, and then showed him how to use the shovel to dig.

Camden and Aubrey were so helpful in making sure that Sam made the trip across the bridge safely. Camden even put his foot into the gap between the bridge and the patio so Sam would have something to step on. Such sweet friends!!

Here are a few more of Sam exploring the backyard at Nana and Papa's and generally just getting dirty. :) But, that's what little boys do! We have had several days which have required a mid-day bath in addition to the bedtime bath, just to get him clean enough to take a nap!!

Beautiful Day at the Houston Zoo!

Since it was such a beautiful day, we decided to head to the Zoo. We were super surprised to run into Will, Lisa and Sarah in the parking lot!! Great minds think alike! :)

We started the adventure by taking a ride on the train around Hermann Park. Here is Sam checking out how the train is put together.

Silly Faces!! Grandma and Grandpa got Sam a wagon for his birthday, and Eddie went and picked it up and assembled it right before we left. Sam really enjoyed riding around in style.

It was really a neat thing to see that he is finally old enough to be aware of the animals. Last spring when we went to the zoo, he enjoyed the outing, but didn't really seem to realize that there were animals around. Here he is checking out the giant iguana.

Little Miss Sarah took a turn pulling Sam around the zoo. She's such a good friend! :)

Towards the end of the trip the boys took the kids on a ride on the carousel. Sam was so tired that he wasn't too into the ride, but Sarah had a blast!

On the way out, Sam was SO tired, he was falling asleep sitting up in the wagon. Poor guy!! So Dad just went ahead and picked him up and carried him the rest of the way to the car.

Tots Take over the Children's Museum

Since all of the big kids have headed back to school, the Children's Museum here in Houston is having a "Mini Wonders Celebration" where the little guys and gals basically have run of the entire place. Sam had a good time getting to play in some of the other areas that he would have gotten run over in last time.

Here he is at a station where a light travels around and the kids are encouraged to "jump rope" in time with the light. Of course, Sam isn't able to do it yet, but he was very interested in watching the older boy try it out.

As we headed upstairs to the Tot Spot, Sam was showing Dad the cow statue.

Sam also showed Dad how the light coming through the flower petals changed colors when he spun them.

Then they sat down and played with the Plinko machine for quite some time. It was tricky remembering to gather the balls from the holes in the plexiglass and not try to grab through the glass.

He took this pretty little girl for a spin.

Then tried his hand at a tea party. He preferred to bang the teapot, cups and plates on the table instead.

We decided he had a pretty good time, since he was asleep almost before the museum was even out of sight. :)

We had Sam's One Year Pictures taken a couple of days after his birthday party. He was not exactly thrilled to have a stranger taking his picture, but we were able to get a couple of cute ones. I even went as far as trying to bribe a good mood out of him with Saltines. If nothing else, they definitely show his personality!

This last week has been a flurry of activity for young Samuel's First Birthday.

On his actual birthday day, Eddie and I took him to the Children's Museum for a little fun. Here the boys are on their way in to the museum.

When we first got there, Sam needed a little time to adjust to the surroundings, so he and Eddie sat over in the corner for a few minutes to give him a little time.

It wasn't long before he was all over the place. He loved to pull balls out of this ball pit and toss them over his shoulder. Dad acted as a balancing assistant, while Mom positioned herself behind Sam to catch and return all of the errant balls.

Sam loves to open and close doors, so this was a fun center for him. The door was just his size and when he opened it, there was a mirror inside.

These were fun flowers that spun and you could see the sun shine through.

Next up will be pictures and tales from the birthday party!!!

Eddie went in to get Sam from his bed after his morning nap, and this is what he found...

So, the "baby-proofing" will certainly go into effect now. :) It is still amazing to me how one day he can't do something, then the next day he can.

He also turned EIGHT MONTHS old on Sunday, so we took his monthly pictures...

Guess who turned six months old on Thursday?!?!? Sam!!! It was super cold on Thursday, so we had to get Sam super bundled up for his doctor's appointment - he even wore shoes for the first time. ;)

Round Rock Trip

For the last week, Sam and I have been in Round Rock visiting Nana and Papa.
Uncle Buddy and Aunt Holly came over and played with us on Sunday.

On Tuesday, we went to the Rebecek's and had smores along with the Mokry and Work families.

Wednesday was my 33rd birthday, and Sam and I went to Chuy's with Tiffany for a celebratory luncheon, and they happened to have the Hatch Chicken Enchiladas as their special that day! My FAVORITE dish!!!

Thursday Sam and I took a little road trip to Waco to meet up with Chrisi and Cody and Joe and have lunch at George's Restaurant (and Bar).

On Friday, Sam got his first taste of peas. Not his favorite, but as with everything, he ate them well. (Not momma's favorite either... I HATE peas and the smell of them made me gag a little, but I kept telling Sam how yummy they are.)

Uncle Buddy and Aunt Holly came back to visit on Saturday. Sam is starting to get the idea of needing to get those knees underneath him to get on his way to being mobile. Uncle Buddy did a little coaching on the floor.

This is Sam's current "three-point stance." Unfortunately, the third point is his head. :)

I was just checking out the blog of my friend Joe Hart, and added his blog to my list of followed blogs and realized how long it had been since I have checked in over here! I really need to get a little better about updating this. :)

On Friday, Sam will be FOUR MONTHS OLD!!! So hard to believe!! At his two month appointment, he was in the 91st percentile for height and the 30th percentile for weight. It will be fun to see where he ranks on Friday. :)

Last week we had a lot of fun in Round Rock for Thanksgiving. Sam's Papa got to babysit him a couple of times while mom and I went shopping. This week we are enjoying having Eddie home before he sets off on a new trial and getting some decorations put up for Sam's first Christmas!

Here are a couple of the latest and greatest of our little man. :)

So, unless he has a plan of his own that he will let us know about sooner or later, Sam should be here by Tuesday. At my appointment yesterday, we scheduled for me to be admitted to the hospital on Monday evening, and they will start the induction on Tuesday morning!! Our little boy will be here before we know it!!

Houston Baby Shower

Last weekend, I was thrown a wonderful shower by two lovely friends, Chrisi and Stefanie. We had a great time and it was wonderful to get to see everyone!! I am STILL overwhelmed with all of the stuff that was showered upon Baby Sam... he is so lucky to have such a fan club even before he gets here!!

I guess I will start this out like I did last time and show you how huge I have gotten in the few weeks since the first shower...

As I sit here feeling the baby having the hiccups, I thought I would show how big Baby Sam has made his mommy (and I still have eight weeks to go!) :) This was taken at the wonderful Baby Shower that Tiffany and her mom Debbie threw for me in Round Rock yesterday (and thank you Dan for taking all of the lovely pictures - including this one!)

28 Weeks!!

Yesterday was our 28 week appointment, and we were able to get another of the 4-D pictures. Introducing the latest image of the profile of our little boy!! I know I am biased, but isn't he just the cutest? :) Can't wait to meet him in late July/early August!!

Bourbon Pecan Pie

So, here is the Pecan Pie recipe that those of you who attend Easter at the Flicks may have tried. The amount of bourbon which is added is deceptively strong, depending on what kind of bourbon you choose. For the version served at Easter, I used Booker's which is a high alcohol-proof variety. I have made this with Jim Beam before with equally delicious, yet less fire-breathing results. :) Enjoy!

Bourbon Pecan Pie
Ingredients:

1 cup sugar
3 Tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup dark corn syrup
3 large eggs, beaten
1.5 - 2 cups pecan halves
2 Tablespoons good-quality bourbon
1 Pillsbury pie crust (the roll-out kind found in the refrigerated section by the biscuits, etc.)

Preheat the oven to 375

In a medium bowl, stir together the sugar and melted butter. Add the corn syrup, eggs, pecans, and bourbon and stir until all ingredients are combined. Pour mixture into an unbaked pie shell, and place on a heavy-duty cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Lower the oven temperature to 350 and continue to bake for an additional 25 minutes or until pie is set. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Filling will solidify upon cooling.

Went to the doctor today for my monthly check-up, and all is well. 26 weeks down, 14 to go. Once again, the baby squirmed away as they were trying to measure his heart rate, but I've now come to expect this, and warn the nurses ahead of time. :) Pretty soon, he will be too big to hide, so he won't have a choice about staying still.

I will be taking my glucose test in two weeks, so hopefully I will be able to pass this one with the same flying colors that I passed the early test with. I have reached the point in this pregnancy that I will have to start having appointments every two weeks to check on how things are going. This whole process has, at the same time, seemed to take forever and has flown by.

I think my next post may be to share my recipe for those who like their alcohol in pie form. :)

Our baby furniture has officially arrived. Eddie went and picked it up today! All we now have to do is figure out what to do with all of the stuff in the office so it has a place to live.

I know it's been a while... I really have been meaning to get another update on here... really... I swear.

Here is the picture that I was wanting to update with last time of our baby boy!

This the 3-D image of the little face and arms/hands of our little one at 20 weeks. :) We should be getting another set of these pictures at 28 weeks (May 11th) and they should be so much more defined than this one since he will be much bigger.

The big news is that we have finally decided on a name... he will be Samuel Edward! :)

Easy Dessert

I was going to post a new baby picture, but then realized that I am not on my laptop... you would think this would be evident since I am on Eddie's mini-book, instead of my full-size media laptop, but apparently not. Therefore, I have no access to the pictures on my desktop so that will have to wait until another time. I really have no explanation, so... let's just blame it on baby brain and move on. :)

So, instead, I will post the recipe for Dump Cake... a horrible, yet literal name for a delicious and super easy dessert.

Cherry Pineapple Dump Cake

1 - 21 oz can cherry pie filling

1 - 15 oz can crushed pineapple

1 - Yellow Cake Mix

1.5 Sticks o' butter

Preheat oven to 350.

In 13x9 pan empty cans of pie filing and pineapple and mix together. Sprinkle the dry cake mix on top of the fruit filling. Cut the sticks of butter into pats and place on top of the cake mix. Bake at 45 minutes to 1 hour until brown and bubbly.

Let cool a bit and then enjoy! Delicious with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream... very cobbler-esque. :)

Here is a very basic map of where the venue is located. The easiest way to get there is to take the 254 exit (Hwy. 3406) and head west. The turn for Old Sam Bass (CR 175) is 1.6 miles west of the intersection of I-35 and 3406. Turn left onto Old Sam Bass (CR 175), and the venue should be on your right, less than 1/4 mile from the intersection. There is a white metal fence and a sign that says "Chateau on the Creek." Turn right and follow the driveway back to the venue.

So I realized that it has been quite some time since I said on here that we were going to have hotel rooms booked at another place as well... about two months it seems. :)
Well, this is finally being done! We have reserved a block of rooms at the Courtyard Suites in Round Rock, and the rate will be $89 a night. Both the Courtyard and the Hilton Garden Inn are located fairly close to the venue and are both off of I-35. We now have 37 days until the wedding!

Just a quick update to say that the invitations are finally done and have been delivered to the post office! That was a big ball-o-stress that I am glad is finally out the door! 53 days and counting now. Next up... favor boxes.

I am going to try to update with some pictures and such from the wonderful shower that the girls threw me on August 8th in Round Rock. I have been a little behind on posting pictures from the shower because of the calligraphy task, but would like to resolve that soon. For starters, here is a picture of the super cute (and super yummy!) cake they had at the shower.

Q: How dressy will the ceremony be?
A: The bridal party will be dresses and the groomsmen in tuxes... We would prefer Sunday-esque church clothes for our guests, but if you are afraid of being seen, you may wear camo if you are planning on watching the ceremony from the wooded area or by the stream. Please know that this area is standing-room only.

Q: What food have we chosen for the reception?
A: This decision has not been made quite yet, but the "sausage" food group may not be represented the day of the wedding. The rehearsal dinner is being held at the Salt Lick the night before and those concerned with the "sausage" food group will surely have their fill there. If you are not attending the rehearsal dinner, please just stand near one of the men who were, as they are likely to still have a hint of the aroma of sausage about them.

Q: Why are we only registered at sissy places like Dillards?
A: Mainly because the only "guns" the other places such as Western Auto, Academy Sports and Elk River Tool and Die have are not for shooting bar codes, but shooting animals. Plus, none of these places really appeal to Alicia - she gets stares for just entering them in the first place - and Eddie doesn't like to fill out paperwork.

Miscellanous Wedding Information

We are getting married in less than 4 months, and are trying to finish up with the extraneous planning. Here are some answers to questions you may or may not have...

Q: Where are you getting married?
A: Chateau on the Creek in Round Rock, TX

Q: Where have you blocked hotel rooms for your guests?
A: We haven't... we are slackers and have had this on the "to do" list for a while now. But, I think that we are going to try the Springhill Suites and the Hilton Garden Inn... that way people can choose which reward points they would like to earn, Marriott v. Hilton.

Q: Where are you registered?
A: Crate and Barrel, Dillards, and Bed Bath & Beyond

Q: Why are there no place settings on your china registry at Dillards?
A: Because we have rockin' moms who have already purchased them all for us.

Q: Will there be alcohol at the wedding?
A: We are planning on serving beer and wine, but won't be doing either if we don't call and arrange for the bartender... this too is on the "to do" list.

Q: What are the colors for the wedding?
A: Navy, Apple Green and Ivory.

Q: Where are you going on your Honeymoon?
A: Hawaii! We are spending one week on Oahu and one on Maui... If things go as planned, stayed tuned to this site after the wedding for updates and pictures as we explore the islands!

We have been going back and forth on what format to use for a wedding website... do we want to go for our own domain name (but really, who's gonna read that - really... who's gonna read this?) or do we want to go the cheesy (but free) route of theknot.com? I set up a very sparse page there, but then lost interest.
So, now I am trying out blogger... it's the best of both worlds... possibly something we can use post-wedding, but it too is free. Following my train of thought here? :) We will see how well this goes... I am going to run it past Edwad this evening and see what he thinks!
